Deep Dive: Larry Rudolph

Larry Rudolph was born on July 24, 1963, in New York City. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Law degree, until he decided to focus his sights onto the Music Industry. In the 1990’s he was credited to discovering Britney Spears. Britney references Larry briefly in her 1999 documentary, saying that her feet were very sore trying to keep up with her manager, Larry, running through the streets of New York, trying to promote her debut album. As her manager Larry, for better or worse, played a pivotal role in launching her to the levels of fame, which eventually became her prison. He has often been credited as the mastermind behind Britney’s success, but I think of him more like that evil warden in Shawshank Redemption.

He has managed many well known artists, including Miley Cyrus, Avril Lavigne, will.i.am, and Nicole Scherzinger, Justin Timberlake, 98 Degrees, Nick Lachey, Backstreet Boys, O-Town, Toni Braxton, Kim Petras, DMX to name a few. Besides his artist management, Rudolph has also made a name for himself as an entrepreneur in Hollywood. A quick wikipedia search links Larry to Dr. Luke, the infamous plaintiff in the Kesha v. Dr. Luke trial.

The frustrating narrative that Larry supported Britney becomes even more problematic when we explore the gross over reach of his power as her manager. He was a fierce and vocal advocate for Britney Spears to be entered into and remain in Conservatorship right up until 2021, when he changed his tune to save his own ass. He has consistently prioritized Britney’s career over everything, even at the risk of her mental health, privacy and overall well-being. Larry has been credited as some kind of promotional genius, when in reality he exploits the people that he should be protecting and turns their lives into a point of speculation for the public. I do not understand why or how people like this and tactics like these can be considers business savvy.

One of the things I want to find more information on is the fact that Britney fired Larry after her divorce with Kevin, then “hired” him back after the conservatorship started. I feel like I should not need to spell out for everyone how WILDLY inappropriate it is that someone she willfully terminated was rehired by hew new oppressive conservators. It makes me so mad, I was glad to find RealCocky had written a tweet about this, I want to follow up on this aspect of Britney & Larry’s history and how much he played roll in the last 13 years of trauma she endured.

In court, Britney stated about her management (meaning Larry), “the people who did this to me should not be able to walk away so easily. To recap: I was on tour in 2018. I was forced to do… My management said if I don’t do this tour, I will have to find an attorney, and by contract my own management could sue me if I didn’t follow through with the tour. He handed me a sheet of paper as I got off the stage in Vegas and said I had to sign it. It was very threatening and scary. And with the conservatorship, I couldn’t even get my own attorney. So out of fear, I went ahead and I did the tour.”

Now my big question is: How can we hold Larry Rudolph accountable for the crimes Britney has alleged against him?

Britney isn’t the only person to make statements about Rudolph that seem to raise concerns about his business practices. Former X Factor contestant, Carly Rose Sonenclar has said that Larry Rudolph tried to sign her before the show even ended. But the “one condition would be that my parents would have to basically give me to him.” Which is so twisted, I barely know where to begin.

She said that he wanted her parents to “Give him full control over what I do, what I wear, everything. Where I live, everything,” she said. “Everything you’d think would happen with, you know, Britney Spears’ manager wanting to manage another young girl.” But her parents didn’t pressure her, letting Carly make her own choice. “I said no,” she said. “Because I was seeing firsthand the results of that from being able to spend time with Britney during the show and I felt like for my well-being as a human, this wouldn’t have been the right call. And then they parted ways.”

To sum up, Larry is suspicious at best, and I feel like now that we have covered who this man is and how he is connected to Britney, I want to know what he has done. I want to know, from Britney, what her relationship is with Larry Rudolph. I suspect she has a lot to say, but is afraid, maybe because he os in a position of power in Hollywood. I will not stop pushing for answers until Britney calls out the people that exploited, oppressed and trafficked her. And if she said he management should be in jail, that points the first right at Larry Rudolph.
