I refused to watch the horse shit TV special that is once again exploiting Britney, but my sister watched it and gave me the low down on a Live on my instagram. You can replay it HERE!
Although I did not watch it, I did learn that Dr. Drew has ONCE AGAIN taken it upon himself to comment on the mental state of a person HE HAS NEVER MET. And if you’re wondering, “Charlie, how can he do that? Is that allowed?” No. It’s not. As a licensed medical provider he is not allowed to comment on the well being of celebrities or anyone that he is not treating (this law was beefed up even more in 2016 when people were speculating on the mental state of a certain political figure) and if he WAS treating her then it would be a serious HIPPA violation. So my question is: How can we as a movement stop Dr. Drew, TMZ and the people profiting off of the exploitation of Britney Spears? Dr. Drew, I will be honest, I am shocked he is still relevant. He was never cool, he was always gross and problematic and I genuinely never understood why anyone listened to him. He has the personality of a meatball and never has anything productive or intelligent to say. He once said that if he was Lindsey Lohan’s father he would frame her for drug possession and have her committed.
I genuinely want to know, what can be done here? Hollywood has always been a cesspool of deplorable reporters harassing celebrities, but there have been people like him that were stopped before, right? The wild west of misinformation in America is so dangerous and people like Dr. Drew Puke-sy need to be stopped. It’s difficult and overwhelming when I look at these injustices in our legal and justice system – but when it comes to Britney’s situation, I feel a little more brave taking on these daunting topics. For example, I can not stand Jeff Whats-his-face that runs Amazon (PAY TAXES, YOU FUCK!) but I don’t even know how to talk about that, comment or what so say at all other than: PAY TAXES, YOU FUCK! But when it comes to people attacking Britney, my mind gets clear and my confidence rises. Because I know what I am dealing with. It’s so clear cut in my mind, anyone talking about Britney in anything other than a positive and supportive tone is flat out wrong. She has been through too much and defending her feels like one of the few things in this life I actually feel confident doing. It’s what I was born to do.
TMZ needs to be stopped. Dr. Drew needs to be stopped. The fetishizing of Britney’s invasion of privacy needs to stop. TMZ should not be allowed to slander people. Do we really have to sit by and watch them stalk and exploit artists? Have we learned nothing from 2007? There should be a wide public backlash against TMZ reporting on Britney drinking Redbull. TMZ should be ashamed of themselves. And if they are not going to operate in a dignified way, it’s up to us to push elected officials and law makers into protecting people from their exploitation and abuse.
